The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially launched a digital platform that enables Kenyans to access, download, and verify their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificates online.
On Tuesday, July 21, the examinations council published a detailed guide outlining the registration process and how applicants can obtain their digital certificates through the new e-Certificate portal.
To begin, applicants should visit the KNEC e-Certificate portal and register by selecting the Applicant (Student/Alumni) option. During registration, users will be required to provide a valid email address, after which a One-Time Password (OTP) valid for 10 minutes will be sent for account verification.
Those who already have an account can simply log in using their registered email address and request a new OTP to access their dashboard.
Once logged in, applicants must complete their profile by entering personal details, including their citizenship, full name, date of birth, phone number, and national identification number where applicable.
To generate the digital certificate, users should select the Generate e-Certificate option and provide their KCSE index number, examination type, and the year they sat the examination. The platform currently supports KCSE certificates issued between 1989 and 2025.
The system will automatically verify the submitted information. After successful verification, applicants will be prompted to pay a KSh1,500 processing fee via a supported mobile money payment service.
Once the payment is confirmed, the digital KCSE certificate will be available for download in PDF format.
Certificate Verification
Beyond downloading certificates, the platform also allows certificate holders to verify and securely share their academic credentials with employers, learning institutions, and other third parties.
Users can generate a verification report by entering the recipient’s details and selecting their preferred delivery method, including email.
KNEC says the digital platform is expected to simplify access to KCSE certificates, reduce paperwork, and provide graduates with an easier way to present authenticated academic credentials when applying for jobs, further education, or other official purposes.
The initiative forms part of the government’s broader efforts to digitize public services and improve access to educational records for Kenyans.
