Ford Recalls Over 103,000 U.S. F-150 Trucks Over Faulty Axle Bolts, Says NHTSA

Ford is issuing a recall for more than 103,000 F-150 pickup trucks in the United States, citing a defect in the rear axle bolts that may lead to vehicle rollaways or loss of drive power, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

What’s Causing the Recall?

The issue stems from axle hub bolts that can fatigue and break. When this happens, damaged axle hub splines—critical components for transferring power from the axle to the wheels—can result in the vehicle rolling away if parked without the parking brake, or sudden loss of propulsion, either of which significantly elevates the risk of a crash

Warning Signs

  • Clicking noise: May indicate a loose rear axle bolt.
  • Rattling noise: Could point to a broken bolt.
These are potential red flags for the issue

Relief Measures & Timeline

Ford will replace the rear axle shaft assemblies free of charge at Ford or Lincoln dealerships

Affected models span the 2023–2025 F-150 lineup, with NHTSA estimating that only about 1% of these vehicles may actually have the defective parts

Owner notification letters will be mailed in phases between August 18, 2025, and May 22, 2026 .
